1. Defining Naming Words (संज्ञा)

"Everything in the world has a name."

English: A Noun is the name of a person, place, animal, or thing. Hindi: किसी व्यक्ति, वस्तु, स्थान या भाव के नाम को संज्ञा कहते हैं।

2. Types of Nouns (संज्ञा के भेद) While there are many sub-categories, these three are the most essential for primary and middle-school levels:

Type (English),Type (Hindi),Definition,Examples Proper Noun,व्यक्तिवाचक संज्ञा,"Specific names of people, places, or brands.","Rahul, Delhi, Ganga, Monday" Common Noun,जातिवाचक संज्ञा,General names for a class of people or things.,"Boy, City, River, Day" Abstract Noun,भाववाचक संज्ञा,Things you cannot touch; feelings or ideas.,"Love, Bravery, Childhood, Happiness"

3. Comparison & Teaching Tips Proper vs. Common (The "Unique" Test) Explain that a Common Noun is a general category, while a Proper Noun is the specific identity.
Common: He is a king (राजा).
Proper: His name is Akbar (अकबर).

The Capitalization Rule A key difference to point out to your students: In English, Proper Nouns always start with a Capital Letter (e.g., London).

In Hindi, there is no concept of uppercase/lowercase, so students must identify the noun based on whether it refers to a "specific" entity.

4. Interactive Classroom Activity "The Name Bag" (नाम की थैली)
Place various objects in a bag (a pen, a toy car, a fruit). Ask a student to pick one.
Step A: Name the object (Common Noun / जातिवाचक).
Example: "This is a Pen (कलम)."

Step B: Give it a special name (Proper Noun / व्यक्तिवाचक).
Example: "This is my Parker (पार्कर) pen."

5. Quick Reference for Students Pro-Tip: Remind students that Abstract Nouns (भाववाचक संज्ञा) are "Heart Words"—you feel them in your heart, but you can't see them with your eyes (e.g., Honesty / ईमानदारी).
